Brand identity
for Kino Brigante
Behind the logo
The logo portrays Michelina Di Cesare, member and leader of a group of Briganti, southern Italians — of a mostly rural background — who fought against the Italian authority after the unification of the country in 1861. Unlike with the bandits, their armed struggle was motivated by the invasion of their homeland. Among them, some women chose to participate directly in the fight.
Michelina Di Cesare is one of the most famous Brigantesse because of her use of photography for ideological propaganda. She often had herself portrayed armed with a rifle and pistol while wearing the traditional costume of local peasants, to symbolize the Briganti’s attachment to the land and its traditions, and subvert the authorities’ propaganda against them.
